Berkshire Cricket - Coach Education

Berkshire Cricket run a comprehensive Coach Education Programme, aimed at meeting the needs of prospective coaches, existing coaches, and the requirements of clubs.

The ECB Coaching Pathway and further information is available on the
ECB website.

This winter sees two level one courses, two level two courses, a series of Coach Development Workshops, and the newly released Club Coach Assessment.

Candidates can join coaching pathway at any of the first three stages (Introduction, Level One, Level Two) depending on their experience and knowledge of Cricket and the coaching process.

Candidates wishing to start at Level Two will require previous experience of coaching and working with children in a club or school environment, although not necessarily within Cricket.

For course dates, cost and further information on each of these courses, please click on the links below –

Introduction to Cricket Course – a course aimed at parents with a limited knowledge of Cricket, and run on a club basis. No formal qualification is awarded. Please contact the County Development Manager, cdm@berkshirecricket.org direct for more information.

Level One (Coaching Assistant) – aimed at beginner coaches who will be assisting more qualified coaches. The course is based around the use of small sided games and drills to introduce basic cricket skills to young players. Essentially designed for parents and Under 18s starting on the coaching pathway.

Level Two (Coach Award) – target audience is those candidates who have previous experience of coaching and cricket, and will cover the coaching skills required to lead group coaching with young players, and develop their technical and tactical knowledge. Candidates must attend all modules of the course and then complete a ‘supported practice’ logbook in a club environment before attending the assessment day. Candidates must be aged 18 on or before the assessment day.

Coach Development Workshops (CDWs) - The primary target audience for the new Coach Development Workshops are coaches who have attended the new UKCC2 course. These workshops are designed to act as “stepping stones” for individuals who wish to work towards attending either the Club Coach Course or the UKCC3 course.

Club Coach - The ECB Club Coach qualification is designed for coaches working in club and school environments who have access and responsibility for the development of players in addition to improving and driving forward their coaching skills.

Level 3 (Head Coach) – this course is run nationally by the ECB Coach Education Department and is operated on an ‘invitation’ basis.

To book onto any of the above courses, please check availability of
dates and complete the booking form.
Priority on all courses is given to candidates from Berkshire Focus Clubs in the first instance, and then to candidates from Berkshire Affiliated Clubs. Candidates from clubs outside Berkshire will only be accepted if there are spaces on a course, approximately three weeks prior to the course commencing. All fees paid are non returnable if places are cancelled with less than 4 weeks notice.

The above qualifications (except the Introduction to Cricket course) require candidates to hold a current First Aid certificate, and have attended the ‘Safeguarding & Protecting Children’ course from SportsCoach UK. These courses are available from Berkshire Sport –
www.berkshiresport.com.

Candidates will also need to have a cleared CRB check from the ECB, information is available in the
